Why this matters

How the newsroom publishes, and what we ask of our reporters

A short note on the editorial standards the desk applies to every piece that goes out under the ComeNewsSports byline.

Every article on this site carries a named byline. The reporter who signs the piece is the reporter who wrote it, and that reporter is accountable for the sourcing, the framing and the accuracy of what is published. Where a piece has been edited, the editorial change is reflected in the body of the article rather than hidden in the metadata, and where a piece has been corrected, the correction is dated and noted at the top of the article.

The newsroom treats on-record sourcing as the default. Speculation is clearly labelled and never sits next to confirmed reporting. Anonymous tips are read but not acted on without independent corroboration, and the reasoning behind any anonymous attribution is explained in the body of the piece and signed off by the editor before publication. The corrections log on the corrections page carries the history of every material correction published since the desk was founded.

We do not publish predictions, betting content, or implied probabilities. We do not run sponsored editorial under the ComeNewsSports byline. Where a story is itself a story, it is published under the reporter's name with the standard sourcing rules applied; where a piece originates outside the editorial team, the originating reporter or wire is named at the top of the article and the body of the piece is reviewed by the editor before publication.
